Catching up

I am finally home and now have to finish three assignments and the learning path and blogs for EDC3100. What an epic few weeks I have had and what an epic few weeks in front of me! Onwards and upwards from here and roll on holidays. It was good to be back at my old school, where all the children seemed to really miss me. Got to change rolls back to School Officer now. I would just like to mention that now I have experienced prac within Education Queensland schools and Brisbane Catholic Education schools, there is just something about these little catholic schools that I really love. Can’t quite put my finger on it but I know I have benefited from both sides.

Take a look at Diane’s blog as her journey seemed just as amazing as mine!

saying goodbye

My Professional Experience ended on a positive note. I gained some pretty terrific experience and hope I offered some as well.It was sad saying goodbye to all the little cherubs at the school, as well as the staff members. ‘Sorry Day’ was a day to remember as I have never been part of those type of celebrations.A beautiful liturgy and a visit from a past staff member and colleague of mine from my old school was amazing, such a wonderful story of her family fostering a little Indigenous boy named Kenny who had a tragic accident when he was at the school in Murgon. What an amazing family. There are lots of those type of families around those parts fostering these beautiful children. What an experience!

Professional Experience

I am really enjoying my prac. The children are gorgeous, with a few challenging ones also. It really is a different experience being in a small country school. Only 105 students in total. The Indigenous ratio is almost half and already I feel part of the school. The 5/6 class has it’s challenges but some good behaviour plans and a well adjusted mentor has helped me enormously. The teaching is fun but am a bit nervous with the content as my passion has always been with the younger children. Better study up on the PCK AND the TPAK forget my ABC! it’s Science. History, Religion, English and Maths for me.A very busy time but extremely rewarding. I began a fun unit on Cyber safety which they are really enjoying. I am missing my family terribly, soon it will be Friday but first off to the DOC BECAUSE MY TOOTH IS KILLING ME!!

First day!

After arriving in Murgon Sunday afternoon I settled in to my new home where I will occupy for three weeks. My mentor and I headed down to the school where we met the team -Year 5/6 girls netball team. Our bus driver was from ‘Adopt-a-cop- a positive program set up in Indigenous areas. Off we went on the Journey to Brisbane. We stayed at Al Hallows’ school library the night after downing a few pizzas! It wasn’t a comfortable night on airbeds, i also had a really painful tooth and it was pouring with rain. The Queensland Cup was cancelled, so we headed back to Murgon with a flat bus battery on the way. Finally arrived back at school after lunch. Wow what an adventure……

The children and staff were very friendly and I thought to myself I think I am going to enjoy this Professional Experience

Off to prac I go.

Hi all,

I am

Hi all,

I am traveling to Murgon for my professional experience and living with a friend there for the weekdays and returning home on weekends. I live in Noosa but decided to try something a bit different this time around. The area has a  lower socio-economic status with many indigenous families there.

My blog address is https://susietb.wordpress.com  and would love to keep in contact with others doing a similar prac. It doesn’t necessarily have to be from an indigenous perspective but perhaps other 5/6 classes.

Yes I am nervous on two fronts; the first is leaving my family for this prac and the other is will I be able to make a difference in these children’s lives and learn a great deal at the same time? There’s only one way to find out… so off I go!

Anyways enjoy your experiences.

Sue

Let’s talk about prac, baby!

Let’s talk about prac, baby. Let’s talk about you and me. Let’s talk about all the good things and the bad things that may be….

Yep it’s a song I had in my head when thinking about what to write about in this blog, however the word prac in the words is only a substitute that I thought would go well.

Has everyone heard from the prac office regarding their pracs, that will be upon us in just a few weeks time?? I must say the people at the prac office in Toooowooomba have been great ( too many o’s in that one). They have so many students to place. I had already organised my own until I was informed that they now place you. Still haven’t got the verification that is required but I have made contact myself. Good luck to all

see you later

RAT Framework

I found the concept of the RAT Framework very interesting over the last module I have been interacting with. It really helped me when I was deciding what types of ICTs to implement within assignment 2.

This reference was really helpful Koehler, M., & Mishra, P. (2009). What is Technological Pedagogical Content Knowledge (TPACK)? Contemporary Issues in Technology and Teacher Education, 9(1), 60-70. Retrieved from http://www.editlib.org/p/29544/

This site had a lot of information to soak up and consider, which allowed my use of Technology in assignment 2’s Unit Plan to really work well, and maybe I will be able to use some of them when on practical experience. I have used blogging as a part of my science unit plan which surely does amplify and transform a student’s learning.

Need to catch up on a few more subjects

until next time

I’ve learned a lot so far so stop grumbling.

I’ve learned a lot so far so stop grumbling. Yes that’s the heading I’ve chosen  to blog about. I am loving the use of all the contractions I’m using and I must also note that there’s no APA needed here.

I have learned a great deal in this course to do with technology and the reasons we need to use it as a future teacher. I wish I just had the time to source all of these great ICT resources my fellow bloggers are blogging about.

I would like a little down time especially before practical experience so I can get up to speed on it all. I will also need to brush up on my upper primary skills because my prac will be at an indigenous school with a year 5/6 composite class. They all have their own Apple Mac in the room so I need to start researching and brushing up on my numeracy skills.

I have used maths ninja and IXL maths before but some how I don’t think that will cut it ??

http://au.ixl.com/math/year-6 this site might be useful??

Talk soon fellow bloggers

Ive done it!!!

After submitting assignment 2 today I’m feeling a little down when I know I should be celebrating. This assignment was not my best work I know and I always put all I can into it. However this course has so much content that I just wanted to get the job done. I agree with Diane and what she has said about the work load and other commitments in her blog here https://dianem14.wordpress.com/2015/05/02/oh-dear-another-blog/

This time I had the notion that ‘P’ is a degree which is not normally my motto. My daughter who finished uni studies last year shared that motto with me while I was stressed to my eyeballs.I will be happy with a pass this semester 😦

Until next time

Worrying times ahead.. to be continued

I took a look at Amanda’s blog post http://feedly.com/i/subscription/feed/https://amandaeconway.wordpress.com/feed/

and it dawned on me that i have not used the QCAA site for much before. I did some investigating and I thought that even though there is so much information to take in it is a very helpful site. It has some info about Essential Learnings for ICT which will be of great assistance for assignment 2 if I ever get started on it!! I have finished all the required learning paths for the assignment but there just seems so much to do even within the format of the assignment and working out what bits go where, let alone the lessons that need to be planned.

Good luck this week all
